Paul F. Engstrom

Paul F. Engstrom, MD
Chief Network Officer, Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners;
Senior Vice President, Extramural Research Programs, Fox Chase Cancer Center

Dr. Engstrom received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He continued at University of Minnesota Hospitals for his postgraduate training, which included a Public Health Service Trainee Grant in medical oncology. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) board of directors and the chair of the NCCN Colon/Rectum/Anal Cancer Panel. In addition, Dr. Engstrom is a professor of medicine at Temple University School of Medicine.

Some of Dr. Engstrom's research interests include biomarkers research, cancer prevention and control interventions and behavioral medicine interventions. He is the director of the Fox Chase Early Detection Research Network Clinical Epidemiology and Validation Center Program and the principal investigator for the Fox Chase Cancer Center CCOP-Research Base Program.

Steven J. Cohen

Dr. Cohen joined the staff at Fox Chase in 2002 after completing his fellowship at Fox Chase. In 2004, he was named associate medical director of the Fox Chase Network (now Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners), and is the director of the Fox Chase Cancer Center Extramural Research Program. Dr. Cohen's research interests include gastrointestinal tumor.

Susan H. Tofani

Susan H. Tofani
Senior Vice President of Clinical Services
and Business Development

Susan is a graduate of Hahnemann University with an Associate of Science degree in radiologic technology. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree Summa Cum Laude from Philadelphia University in accounting and healthcare, and a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Susan is currently responsible for the leadership and oversight of the clinical enterprise and new business initiatives. She works in collaboration with the clinical and administrative leaders to analyze, plan, execute and operate new and ongoing initiatives involved in advancing the clinical mission of Fox Chase. In addition, she is responsible for integrating off-campus and on-campus clinical and administrative activities.

Susan came to Fox Chase in 1981. Over the years, she has planned and developed diagnostic imaging and community based cancer centers; workplace cancer screening and education programs; and joint ventures with hospital and physician partners. In addition, she has organized and managed hospital and physician oncology networks, and negotiated managed-care contracts for the hospital and physician services. For several years, Ms. Tofani also served as administrative vice president for population science, providing fiscal, strategic and operational oversight for over 30 faculty members.

Alan G. Howald

Alan G. Howald

Regional Development and Planning

Alan is responsible for clinical, research, education, marketing and business activities between Fox Chase Cancer Center and Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner hospitals and related physician practices. He has over 20 years of healthcare experience in various operational, financial and analytical capacities with 12 years of direct experience in oncology. He is also the director of Strategic Planning at Fox Chase.

Margaret A. O'Grady, RN, MSN, OCN

Peg O'Grady, RN, MSN, OCN
Senior Director, Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners

Peg has a degree in nursing from Holy Family University, a master's degree for nursing and business administration from La Salle University and has completed the Six Sigma Certificate Program at Villanova University. She is Oncology Nursing certified by the Oncology Nursing Society and has been a member for 20 years.

Peg directs the clinical operations staff for the Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners program. She coordinates clinical program planning, disease management project development, quality improvement and hospital specific accreditations for 25 community hospitals affiliated with Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Peg has 25 years of oncology experience in varied leadership roles, and her special research interests include Six Sigma strategies for outcomes research, quality metrics development, assessing research program infrastructure and developing ambulatory care programs at community partner sites.

Julia C. Goplerud, BS, MA

Julia C. Goplerud, BS, MA
Senior Director of Regional Marketing
and Physician Relations,
Fox Chase Cancer Center

Julia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in science journalism from University of Kansas, and a master's degree in molecular biology from University of Texas at Austin. She has more than 20 years of experience in health-care marketing and oversees advertising, media buying and consumer marketing for Fox Chase Cancer Center and also heads the physician relations program, including overseeing development of physician collateral materials, video vignettes, web profiles, dinners and educational events.

In addition to her responsibilities at Fox Chase, Julia provides guidance for Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners marketing and acts as a consultant for all aspects of health-care marketing including planning, media buying, advertising, collateral materials, physician relations, and clinical trials recruitment. She has developed numerous campaigns recruiting people for clinical trials and cancer high-risk programs and is co-author of two publications on strategies for recruiting minorities to clinical trials. Prior to joining Fox Chase, she held positions at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. and University of Texas at Austin.
