Hospice Services
Topics in This Section
Through the Lippincott Family Hospice Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, we provide the following services:
Skilled Nursing Care
Registered nurses specializing in cancer and hospice care coordinate the services of all members of the team. They provide educational and supportive nursing services aimed at managing and controlling pain and other symptoms caused by cancer. Nursing support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to respond to patient and family concerns.
Social Work Services
A licensed, clinical social worker with expertise in end-of-life care and bereavement helps families address care concerns and cope in dealing with the eventual loss of a loved one. The social worker may:
- Help secure resources that allow patients to remain in the company of family and friends
- Address issues such as how to explain terminal cancer to young children or grandchildren
- Help facilitate difficult end-of-life discussions between family members and the patient
Pastoral Counseling
A specially trained hospice chaplain provides services to strengthen and reinforce patients' spiritual comfort throughout their illness.
Volunteer Services
Trained hospice volunteers provide compassionate companionship, respite from routine tasks or simply a quiet presence for patients and their loved ones.
Certified Nursing Assistants
Trained and supervised aides can provide personal-care services, such as bathing, feeding, toilet assistance and skin care.
Medical Equipment and Supplies
Medical items such as wound care supplies, equipment and hospital beds, may be provided directly through the service or arranged through an outside supplier.
Bereavement Counseling
Hospice does not stop when a patient dies. Bereavement follow-up is provided for 1 year to assist families in adjusting to the loss of a loved one.
Insurance Information
Most insurance companies will pay for hospice care services in the home. Staff will assist patients and families in finding sources of payment. Fox Chase Cancer Center will make every effort to accommodate individual patient needs.
