I enjoy helping patients with early, inconclusive diagnoses by providing thorough and compassionate care. It is enormously gratifying to me to reassure patients and family members that they are receiving an accurate diagnosis, followed by the best treatment plan. Fox Chase has mastered how to provide access to and coordination of expert care to all of our patients.
As a dermatologist, I was always interested in skin cancer. The skin's access creates unique cancer research opportunities in basic and clinical science. Topical treatments have long been dermatology's domain for targeted therapies. These treatments expand the horizon in development therapeutics for skin cancer.
I came to Fox Chase Cancer Center because of its distinct institutional focus on cancer and cancer prevention. Unlike community or university hospitals, there are no competing priorities over cancer care at Fox Chase. Also, I sought to take advantage of the enormous resources that the hospital offers for clinical research.
My focus has primarily been in skin cancer prevention. Working with other Fox Chase researchers, we have focused on several areas:
- Identification of biomarkers and the biologic mechanisms underlying skin cancer risk
- Effective ways to communicate skin cancer risk to people susceptible to the disease
- Development and testing of topical agents on skin cancers.
Fox Chase dermatology clinical care is organized with the infrastructure to support basic and clinical research, from biosample acquisition to clinical trial accrual. Clinical services include skin cancer screening, early detection and surveillance as well as state-of-the-art treatment. We provide consultations to any Fox Chase patient with skin problems.
