Translational Proteomics

Yeung's research is concerned with the application of the basic research tools of biochemistry and biotechnology to medicine. The biochemistry studied includes nucleic acid chemistry, DNA damage lesions, and DNA repair nucleases enzymology; the biotechnology expertise includes automated DNA synthesis, enzymatic mutation detection, quantitative real-time PCR, mass spectrometry, and proteomics. These tools are applied to three main projects: a proteomic project seeking intervention targets in colon crypt cells that have sustained one-hit tumor suppressor mutations; the application of mass spectrometry for high sensitivity early detection of pancreatic cancer in pancreatic cyst fluids; and the search for the biomarkers of susceptibility and severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Yeung is also the director of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology Facility that includes chromatography, mass spectrometry, and proteomics
