Treatment Philosophy

As a young girl growing up, I aspired to follow in my mother’s footsteps to become a nurse. While in high school I became intrigued with science and how our bodies work, and my interest shifted from wanting to help people with cancer to wanting to find the cure for cancer. This led me to pursue a dual degree in Biology and Chemistry at Immaculata (College) University. After graduating, I worked for six years in a world-renowned biochemistry lab and although life in the lab was exciting and stimulating, the desire to follow my childhood dream to become a nurse continued to present itself. Therefore, I returned to school to complete a one-year intensive BSN nursing program at Thomas Jefferson University. After graduating, I spent a few years as an oncology floor nurse and a chemotherapy infusion nurse.

I joined Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC) in 2007 as a clinical research nurse which allowed me to merge my love for science and oncology nursing. As the years past, I began to investigate the pathways to become an oncology nurse practitioner but ultimately decided the timing wasn’t right for me and my family. In 2011, I became a FCCC Nurse Navigator where I advocated for lung cancer patients while offering them education and support during their oncology care journey.

A year later my personal and professional life merged as I navigated my own father through his lung cancer diagnosis. Caring for my father during that time helped me become a better oncology nurse and relight the fire in me to become a oncology nurse practitioner.

My years of being an oncology nurse and the experience of being both a daughter and a nurse though my Dad’s cancer diagnosis and treatment is the foundation of my treatment philosophy. My goal is to work closely with all members of our multidisciplinary team to ensure each patient’s needs are met while providing compassionate care. I strive to advocate for and support the patient and families during their cancer journey. I am inspired by my patients’ resilience and courage, and I am honored by their willingness to welcome me as a member of their care team.
