A Mobile Mammography Success Story
In June 2007, Julie Switzky missed her yearly mammogram appointment. The Fox Chase mobile mammography van happened to be at her office.
“I called and they fit me in the very last day the van was in Upper Providence. In fact, the girls there said they would stay late to see me because they were booked,” Julie recalled.
"I must say that you guys saved my life."
”Well, I must say that you guys saved my life. The mammogram detected that I had early Stage 2 breast cancer. The last 6 months have been a series of ups and downs and I can say that I am now beginning to see the light,” said Julie.
When she reflects on this experience, Julie realizes that there were blessings along the way that truly affected her outcome and survival.
"I'm not sure I would have followed up with my mammogram if Fox Chase had not seen me that day."
“I'm not sure I would have followed up with my mammogram if Fox Chase had not seen me that day. I was 41 and figured there was no possibility that I could have breast cancer,” explained Julie.
“My sister was just diagnosed with breast cancer."
“My sister was just diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2007 as well. So, I thought to myself, what is the likelihood that I could have breast cancer too? I was very, very busy at work and was not going to make the time for a mammogram.”
"Thank you, thank you to the staff that work on the mammography van for taking the time to call me when I missed my appointment and being gracious enough to stay late that very last day."
She concluded, “All I have to say is thank you, thank you to the staff that work on the mammography van for taking the time to call me when I missed my appointment and being gracious enough to stay late that very last day. They made sure that I got this done."
"I'd also like to thank Dr. Arthur Magilner, the pathologist that read my films. Without his fine expertise, this breast cancer could have been missed. I cringe to think what would have happened if another year went by without treatment. I can never thank everyone at Fox Chase enough. I am very grateful.”
