The Dragon Boat Festival is a popular event every October

The Dragon Boat Festival happens along the Schuylkill River every October. Since the first event in 2002, festival participants and supporters have raised more than $1 million for Fox Chase. Thank you to the teams and all who support Fox Chase Cancer Center through this event.

Fox Chase Cancer Center Hosts 16th Annual Paws for the Cause Charity Dog Walk
(Oct 1, 2015)

Take a Sunday stroll with your dog on Sunday, October 18, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and enjoy music, food, pet photos, contests and prizes, rescue organizations and pet-related vendors. Dawn Timmeney of Fox 29 News and her dog, Bhodi, will return as guest hosts for the event, which has raised more than $275,000 to date.

Immunotherapy Extended Overall Survival of Patients with Nonsquamous NSCLC
(Sep 27, 2015)

A phase-3, randomized, open-label international clinical trial showed significantly longer median overall survival with nivolumab immunotherapy than with docetaxel.

Fox Chase has a program to help with fatigue using both exercise and mindfulness.  The program also includes advice on diet and lifestyle that can assist with improving fatigue.

Athletic fundraising eventsEvery spring, various cancer advocacy organizations host walks, runs, and special events throughout the Philadelphia region to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. 

Many employees from Fox Chase as well as other entities within TUHS help to lead and take part in these community events.

Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 14 Mesothelioma Golf Outing

Union workers from around the region will team up with the members of the Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 14 for the 21st Annual Mesothelioma Golf Outing on October 2 at Philmont Country Club.  Join in a day filled with fun and friendly competition for a great cause, and enjoy lunch, a shotgun scramble, cocktails, dinner and prizes.  Registration is $200 per golfer, with all proceeds benefitting Fox Chase Cancer Center.  Since its inception, the event has raised more than $2 million for research in the fight against mesothelioma, a rare cancer that is commonly caused by exposure to asbestos.  For more information or to register, contact Bev Maccari at 215-289-4303 or

Light the Night Walk

The Fox Chase Cancer Center/Temple Health team is looking for participants and donors for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk on Saturday, October 24 at The Philadelphia Museum of Art at Eakins Oval. During the annual evening walk, participants carry illuminated lanterns of different colors: survivors carry white lanterns, supporters carry red and family members of lost loved ones carry gold. Proceeds will be dedicated to funding research for blood cancer and ensuring access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

Fox Chase Nurse Navigator Cathy Haberle, RN-BC, MSN, CBCN, CHPN is the captain of a fundraising team of Fox Chase faculty and staff, volunteers, patients, and their families participating in the event. Faculty and staff, volunteers, patients, and their families are invited to join the Temple University Health team participating in the 2015 Philadelphia Heart Walk sponsored by the American Heart Association on Saturday, November 7 at Citizens Bank Park. Proceeds from the annual walk will be donated to further progress in beating heart disease and stroke – two of the country’s most deadly diseases. Temple Health’s team is led by Karen Emanuel Javie, MSN, RN, the chief of operations for the Temple Heart and Vascular Institute and has a goal of $2 million.
