Jennifer Reese, PhD, Appointed Assistant Professor of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center

PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 29, 2014)—Jennifer (Jenny) Reese, PhD, a behavioral science researcher and licensed psychologist, has joined Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Cancer Prevention and Control Program as an Assistant Professor. In this role, Dr. Reese will work on developing and evaluating interventions to improve sexual health and quality of life for cancer survivors.

“We’re very excited to have Dr. Reese join our Center,” says J. Robert Beck, MD, Senior Vice President, Deputy Director, and Chief Academic and Administrative Officer. “Dr. Reese’s research interests dovetail nicely with other work being done at Fox Chase and her clinical experience in helping cancer survivors develop skills to cope with cancer-related changes to their lives enhances the Center’s focus on quality of life and survivorship.”

Not only does Dr. Reese offer a wealth of research knowledge to Fox Chase, but she is also bringing with her a five-year Mentored Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society and a soon to be awarded R21 Developmental Research Grant from the National Cancer Institute. Together, these projects will investigate both patient- and provider-focused approaches to addressing sexual concerns for breast cancer patients.

“The program of research being conducted by Dr. Reese will address key understudied issues in cancer survivorship,” states Carolyn Fang, PhD, Co-Leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Fox Chase. “Her research on patient and provider training interventions to enhance communication may provide essential tools to assist healthcare professionals in initiating these discussions.”

Dr. Reese graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College in New York and earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.  She completed a clinical internship at Duke University School of Medicine and postdoctoral fellowships at Duke and Johns Hopkins University Schools of Medicine.
